AN INITIATIVE
FOR GENTLE CANCER TREATMENT
AND QUALITY OF LIFE
The first National clinical Proton Therapy Center in Switzerland to fight cancer will be built in the municipality of Galgenen in the Canton of Schwyz (CH), the PTC “Zürichobersee”.
The therapy center will be specialized in outpatient radiation therapy using proton beams. It will accessible for patients from all over Switzerland and abroad.
A Clinical Trials Administration with a suitable IT platform will help to capture and report all proton therapies in the frame of clinical trials.
The project development company is Proton Therapy Center Switzerland AG (PTCS). The project comprises planning, construction, technical non-clinical operation and financing.
On a land parcel of 28,650 square meters the therapy center and a clinic- and conference hotel with a training center is planned to be be built. The project runs with full support from the Canton of Schwyz.
The construction start is scheduled for early 2012. Thereafter 3½ to 4 years are expected for construction, installation and commissioning. This means that the center shall start its clinical operation presumably early 2015.
The intended scientific and technical collaboration of PTC Zürichobersee with Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and the Swiss University Hospitals shall set the stage for co-operative clinical treatment, research and teaching as a unique situation in Europe.
PTC Zürichobersee will be an active partner in the interdisciplinary oncology programme and the center will welcome every interested visitor, regardless if as physicians, scientists, project developers, architects or financiers.
